The South African Wood Preservers Association (SAWPA) is a non-profit voluntary association that was formed in 1980 by the South African preservative treated timber industry, primarily to promote the preservative treatment of timber and the use of preservative treated timber products.
Commercially grown timber in Southern Africa is mainly of the Eucalyptus and Pinus species, both of which are regarded non-durable. By applying the appropriate wood preservative chemicals to these timbers using proven processes, it is ensured that the preservative treated timber performs as if it were durable thereby giving predictable long-life performance.
Our objectives are defined as the promotion of the preservative treatment of timber and the use of preservative treated timber products; the establishment of SAWPA as a center for consumer information and technical enquiries; and a mouthpiece for its members on all matters that impact the industry for example standards and regulations.
The members of SAWPA are primarily preservative treatment plants, wood preservative chemical manufacturers, distributors and merchants of preservative treated timber, and other related and interested stakeholders.
